Can't Be Women Genius, Men Beautiful?

Show TV, for the new competition programme called "Güzel ve Dahi" which had adopted from the "Beauty and the Geek" programme broadcasted in ABD, sought and found "young girls who are very beautiful, charming, follow the fashion, like shopping" and "men who are professional in their area, have superior intelligence, can teach computer, mathematics and science issues to girls" and started to broadcast the programme.

Show TV, with this programme, supposes beauty and following the fashion are reasonable for women and profession in his area and intelligence are reasonable for men. Along with serving these two qualities as opposite to each other, Show TV possesses the role of being "beautiful and foolish" to women and the role of being "intelligent" to men.

The first broadcasted episode of the competition justifies our concerns and at the same time the web site of the channel is still searching for woman and man candidates with the same criteria.

We want to remind the Broadcasting Ethical Principles which is signed a few days ago to Show TV who started to broadcast this sexist programme assuming beautiful woman/man can not be intelligent and intelligent woman/man can not be beautiful at the same:

- Not giving place to race, color, language, belief and gender discrimination, insult and prejudice in our broadcasts,

- Being sensitive to women issues and escaping to make women as objects,

As Women's Media Watch Group - MEDİZ established with the aim of combating with sexism and violation of women's human rights at media, we are anticipating from Show TV obeying the Broadcasting Ethical Principles, not giving place to these kinds of sexist programmes intensifying the sexist prejudices and ceasing broadcasting the "Güzel ve Dahi"
