We are Asking To Hasan Pulur and Milliyet Newspaper, What Does "Becermek" Mean?
The meaning of the word "becermek" in the statement of "English fucked German, We Got the Blues" which was used by Hasan Pulur in the heading of the news bearing date of 28th of June, 2007 according to the dictionary of TDK (Turkish Language Institution) is:
- To find a solution to a work or state that is seen hard, to handle it.
- as a joke - Make something unusable, broke, make dirty.
- slang - To violate, make dirty.
- slang - To kill somebody.
- and 5th meaning is - from us, women - : what the men understand from sexuality!
Statement used by men from stadiums to political arenas and columns which is sexist and insulting sexuality, women's sexuality and existence, fostering the sexual violence lived by women and making it widespread... In fact it is just the meaning in this article! In summary, opinions of Hasan Pulur in his article about the harassment arguments of a 13-year-old English woman concerning to a 17-year-old German man in Antalya can be summarized as in this heading. Both not being agree with these opinions and thinking that the concerns about harassment and violence lived by women anywhere is our interest, our real act of protest is to the use of the sexist and humiliating verb "becermek" and to the patriarchal mentality beyond these verb!
As Media Watch Group - MEDİZ, we want to stress importantly that any women living in this country and in this world do not deserve to encounter these kinds of slang expressions fostering violence and hostility against women. Including Hasan Pulur and Milliyet Newspaper ahead, we look forward from all the media institutions to behave ethical and responsible in this issue, to put an end to being a mediator in violence and exploitation against women, to not include this kinds of expressions in their newspapers and from Milliyet Newspaper and Hasan Pulur to apologize from all women and to make a formal denial of their declaration.
