How is Assault News Given?

In the date of 19th of October 2007, assault news took place in Hürriyet, Güneş, Şok and Takvim newspapers. The news took place with the headings of "5 hours torture, 11 times assault" in Hürriyet, "Grouped assault in corn plantation" in Şok, "Series of assault to 2 women" in Takvim and "11 people assaulted all at once" in Güneş.

In all 4 news, it is emphasized somehow that the women are "call girl", "hooker", "making love with men against payment", only women's photographs; photographs with mini skirts and blouses are used. Thereby women's morality is interrogated by the language and/or visual material that are used; women are tried by sexist prejudices. Events are narrated with details like "plenty of times", "successively" occurrence of the assault; woman's "not being able to escape from assault even she cried on" and with expressions like "they serviced to the crackers of the village"; women are turned into visual materials in such a way that pornographic voyeurism is fostered and women are assaulted once again.

Including Hürriyet, Güneş, Şok and Takvim newspapers ahead; we persistently remind to all the media institutions of putting an end to these kinds of news which magazinize, eroticize the violence against women, harm to the physical, mental and emotional integrity of women, have a role in the rise of crimes against women; discontinue to bring forth violence against and exploitation of women once again.
