To to Haydar Dümen's Sexual Harassment and Provocation of Violence Ever!
We, as women and women's organizations who compose Media Watch Group, for years, do not want to be exposed to declarations of Haydar Dümen that provocate sexual harassment and violence directed to women, whom is introduced as expert of sexual matters at all media channels.
For all who did not notice the insult, harassment and violence that last for years, just two examples from Haydar Dümen's writings as a doctor and writer in Posta Newspaper bearing the date of 16th of November, 2006:
1. His answer to a 15-year-old male reader who tells that his girlfriend wants to have a sexual intercourse with him but he bewares persistently:
"My dear, continue to escape. Do not tire and stumble, if your girlfriend catches you she pounces upon you. It will be an instantaneous event but nobody saves you if the group; brothers, uncles, mothers, and fathers walk upon you saying ‘what did you do?' like a mosquito colony. Because instances like these usually have general currency. Or the surprise of the nature appears in front of you. Your girl friends' maidenhead, but the most dreadful is pregnancy. Here goes, resolve the tie. If the girl do not listen you, make her listen. Threaten her by saying ‘I sever my relations with you if you continue like this.'. Because she is playing with your life. If she still continues, slap in a cautionary way. Say ‘Come to yourself, it is not the time.' and give hope to her saying ‘If you keep yourself to me, we can get married soon'. Do not forget, you have 80 years in front of you."
2. His answer to 18-year-old male reader who is writing ‘he is influenced from the inanimate fashion models in the stores, sexually aroused from everything that he looks and hot up from every girl that he sees at the streets' :
He is telling that he will send an air woman in a glass in order ‘not to become perverted by touching accidentally' and continues: Some women in Turkey lie down like a stone as inanimate fashion models, men become crazy. Until a Nataşa comes and the eyes of the men open... my dear son, do not like the snotty and slummy girls at the streets... all of these are falling the quality of our girl generation... Getting wilder the ugly girls who seem beautiful at televisions, increasing their prices from 40 - 50 billions o 140-150 billions, shooting the crane from its bottom rather than eyes...
It does not need to be a professional in order to know that the sexuality for women in our country is restricted with inhibitions; taboos like virginity, honor and to know women's exposure to sexual assault and crimes. However a doctor, working on and writing in this issue, needs to be aware of all of these, not to ignore, agitate and exploit.
For the solution of sexual problems, we need doctors, media and mentality who are not sexist/male dominated, not sexist doctors like Haydar Dümen. We are reminding their responsibilities in prevention of violence and discrimination against women to Posta Newspaper and all media institutions which give place Haydar Dümen and asking: Do broadcasts which humiliate women and openly call for violence fit into in which responsibility concept and media ethics?
As Media Watch Group-MEDİZ, we are stressing that no women living in this earth deserves to have a question directed to them from Haydar Dümen who humiliates women, provokes hostility and violence against women in his writings and speeches for years. We are asking and waiting from Posta Newspaper and from all related institutions to behave in an ethical way and responsible in this issue and to end being an agent for violence against and exploitation of women.
